Our Story
Since I have been an anime fan, I have always wished that I could talk to someone about my favorite animes, to discuss in-depth my favorite scenes, point out which characters I enjoy and which I don’t, and to live an otaku’s life in my hometown of Târgu-Mureș. It took me a while until my wish came true though, as I travelled the country and Europe for 4 years, seeking out information that was necessary for the formation of such a club. During this period, I have met countless anime fans throughout the county that had the same dream I had, but who needed something that could offer them direction. In December of 2010, with the help of my newly-acquired knowledge of how more experienced anime clubs conducted their activities, as well as my newly-formed ideas, my dream had finally come true and the club was open for business.
We had our first meeting on the 18th. There were 7 attendees and this had counted as a good start. However, the news had spread, and by the time the second meeting came along, we already had 16 attendees! I could not believe my luck. Even though some left us, I pushed on, and more and more people started cropping up. This was a really difficult process that took a lot of energy and was very grating on the nerves... but we had transcended the label of “community” and became a real family. After more than a year and a half, I can claim with full confidence that the club has reached it’s original goal. Now there’s a home for anime fans in the county where they can talk to friends, with whom they can laugh and play with, and maybe occasionally even have a scuffle with. With more than 50 members on paper and more than 25 active participants, Club Anime Târgu-Mureș has become a community that cannot be torn down, one that has won it’s right to exist in a city that had no faith in it.
